Catanduanes has many beautiful attractions, which have yet to become popular. One of those destinations to add to your itinerary is Tignob Island, one of the three islands of Palumbanes. It has gold-tinged sand, an idyllic atmosphere, friendly locals, and a middle-of-nowhere vibe that many from the city will enjoy. The journey may take long, but it is worth the adventure. This destination is often included in trips to Palumbanes Island.

How to Get There

Nearest Airport: Virac Airport (Catanduanes)

By Air

  1. There are flights from Manila to Virac in Catanduanes, your starting point to Tignob Island.
  2. Once in Virac, there is a bus or a van that travels to Pandan at the town center.
  3. Alight at Caramoran and go to Barangay Baybay.
  4. Look for boatmen that will agree to take you to the island. Tignob is approximately an hour away from Parompong Island.

By Land

  1. Board a bus traveling to Legazpi or Tabaco, the fare costs around P750 to P850.
  2. The ferries that depart for Virac leave from Tabaco; the ROROs are P150 to P300 while the fast crafts cost P450.
  3. Once in Virac, there is a bus or a van that travels to Pandan at the town center.
  4. Alight at Caramoran and go to Barangay Baybay.
  5. Look for boatmen that will agree to take you to the island. Tignob is approximately an hour away from Parompong Island.

 


Entrance Fee and Other Charges

  • Entrance Fee: It depends on where you choose to go and stay. Free to minimal fee.
  • Camping Fee: As of writing, no fee for tent-pitching.
  • Cottage Rental Fee: People don’t normally stay overnight here. They opt to spend the night on Parongpong Island or on the mainland.
  • Boat Rental Rates: P1000 – P1500 (small boat); P3000 (big boat)

Don’t Miss

  • The beach has soft and cream-colored sand with cool waters lapping on the shore. Laze and relax on the beach and go swimming; however, don’t go too far because the waves can get rough.
  • The island has good snorkeling spots for those who want to discover the island’s underwater beauty.

Don’t Forget

  • Before you leave Virac, withdraw or bring enough cash with you to pay for island hopping and expenses incurred along the way.
  • Electricity is only available for a few hours on Tignob Island, so fully charge your gadgets and phones or bring a power bank or extra batteries.
  • Bring snacks and drinks for your stay in Sakahon as the store options are very limited. As always, leave no trace behind, if you decide to eat and chill by the beach for an hour or so.
  • Bring your own gear, if you want to go snorkeling.

  • After exploring Tignob Island, you can explore the other attractions of the province such as Puraran Beach, a surfing Mecca.
  • Relax and unwind in the beaches of Mamangal and Marilima.
  • Swim in the cool pool of Maribina Waterfall.
