MOMO BEACH, BOHOL: IMPORTANT TRAVEL TIPS

2019 • 02 • 20

Bohol has many beautiful white-sand beaches that will keep you coming back for more. One of those places includes Momo Beach. It is unlike the more popular and commercialized shores of Alona and Dumaluan. Characterized by gently swaying coconut trees, soft breeze, and tranquil waters, Momo provides you with an idyllic getaway far from the crowds.

How to Get There

Nearest Airport: Tagbilaran Airport (Bohol)

By Air

  1. The fastest and easiest way to get to Bohol is by plane; there are regular flights from Manila to Bohol (Tagbilaran) operated by Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, and Philippine Airlines. Wait for promo fares to get the cheapest possible tickets for the dates you want.
  2. Once in Tagbilaran, you can hire a tricycle (P300-500/trip), a van (P500-600/trip), or a taxi to get to Momo Beach. You can share the van with other solo or small group travelers to cut down the cost. Taxi is the most convenient but the most expensive option.

Alternatively, you can book flight tickets to Cebu and travel by ferry to Bohol since the two provinces are near each other. The fare per way depends on the class of the seat and the shipping line; Ocean Jet’s fare is around P800 to P1000 while Super Cat’s cheapest ticket, the tourist class, is around P450 per way. There is a terminal fee of P25 and P20, if you depart from Cebu and Tagbilaran respectively.

By Sea

  1. WG&A Super Ferry and Sulpicio Lines offer Manila to Bohol (and vice versa) route several times a week. WG&A sea fare ranges from P2000 to P8000 while Sulpicio Lines fare ranges from P1800 to P3500. Check the ferry schedules of your preferred company. Travel duration is around 30 hours.
  2. Once in Tagbilaran, you can hire a tricycle (P300-500/trip), a van (P500-600/trip), or a taxi to get to Momo Beach. You can share the van with other solo or small group travelers to cut down the cost. Taxi is the most convenient but the most expensive option.

Note that public transportation in Bohol can be unreliable as there are no definite schedules, especially for inter-town transfers via bus and jeepneys. It’s recommended to charter a private vehicle or join a group tour to maximize your time.

Entrance Fee and Other Charges

  • Entrance Fee: It depends on where you are entering from; there’s usually no entrance fee if you are not entering through a resort.
  • Camping Fee: It depends on the area. Ask permission first. Pitching a tent, however, is not that popular here.
  • Cottage Rental Fee: As of writing, there’s no cottages. The area is mostly inhabited by the locals.
  • Panglao Island Tricycle Tour: P800 (including Dumaluan Beach)
  • Transportation Rental Rates: P300/day (motorbike rental, excluding gasoline); P2500 (private car with driver); P3000 (van with driver)

Don’t Miss

  • Momo Beach is far from the crowds, making it the ideal place to relax and unwind. Leave your laptop or tablet behind; bring a book instead and enjoy the beachscape.
  • Wade and/or swim in the serene waters to douse the heat.
  • The beach is also a good place to watch the sunset.

Don’t Forget

  • Before you head out, take enough cash with you for transactions during your trip.
  • There are a handful of resorts near Momo Beach for those who plan to spend a night or two there.
  • Bring snacks and drinks as there are limited food options outside the resorts nearby if you plan to have a picnic on the beach. Leave no trace/trash behind.

If You Have More Time and Budget

  • After some rest and relaxation at Momo Beach, explore other attractions on Panglao Island and the countryside which include the famous Chocolate Hills, Bohol Bee Farm, Loboc River, tarsier sanctuary, the man-made forest, and many others.
  • You can go on a boat tour to watch dolphins, snorkel on Balicasag Island, and beach bum and swim on Virgin Island.

Where to Stay

There’s a decent number of resorts near Momo Beach, but if you are planning to visit places in Bohol other than Panglao Island, here are some of the recommended resorts/accommodations according to Agoda users, in no particular order.
